I want to compress my mp4 video into a gif.

Have you tried MATLAB's writeanimation() fcn:

https://www.mathworks.com/help/symbolic/writeanimation.html

what about imwrite() fcn:

https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/imwrite.html
