Exporting figures to eps format issue

Hi,

I am currently using the export_fig function to export my MATLAB plots in vector format. Exporting to pdf is fine (as is exporting to raster images). However, when I export to eps and subsequently open the eps using Illustrator, I run into trouble. It appears Illustrator is not compatible with the font that MATLAB has outputted using it's postscript function and the resulting figure in eps doesnt look so good. The text appears darkened and thicker.

Does anyone know a way around this? Maybe there is a way I can change add the Helvetica font from MATLAB to Illustrator or something similar?
