best background subtraction method for colored image

I need the best background removal method so that i can separate the objects in an image most accurately by edge detection,dilation and by using built-in functions in an matlab.

Walter Roberson or any one please help me in removing the background of the image i linked. I need only the bike and car in that image as a output after removing the background i tried it by using histogram thresholding method but it is not accurate.

It's not an easy problem. It's not going to be a 10 line program, unless you do it manually with imfreehand(). Did you ever try any of the methods I referred you to below?

You asked for "the best" and "most accurate". There are 10^180000000 different possible background subtraction programs of length up to 1 gigabyte. I haven't finished testing them yet to determine which one is the best. I'll need a bit more time. I suggest you get back to me a bit later. Shouldn't be more than... ummm, how does next Universe sound?
