Does MATLAB 2013a exploit the Intel AVX/AVX2 256-bit SIMD to any degree?

Does MATLAB tend to be shipped with the most recent versions of the underlying libraries (LAPACK, FFTW etc)?

How does choice of OS affect performance (I use MATLAB for Windows and Mac, and get the distinct feel that Mac is lagging somewhat behind).

Does choice of Java runtime affect MATLAB performance?

I do not have access to the parallell processing toolbox.
