Matlab Caffe intsallation in ubuntu

i am trying to install caffe in ubuntu for matlab , in caffe website they said that

install Matlab and maske sure its mex is in $PATH , i am new to ubuntu can some one tell what is meant by to ensure mex to be in $PATH
