Difference between function of sim and predict in Neural network?

Could anyone tell what is the difference between the function of sim and predict in the prediction of neural network? Thank you.

I understand that 'predict' is used for trained neural network and 'sim' is for simulation of NN. But I would like to know from any experienced MATLAB users that how would you use these terms in the shallow neural network?
