I am a college student new to Matlab. How do I find the derivative of y with respect to x:
y=sec^-1*(3x^2+1), x>0

Start with the Symbolic Math Toolbox:
syms x positive real
y(x) = asec(3*x^2+1);
then use the appropriate function to calculate the symbolic derivative.
If ‘x’ is a vector, use the gradient function to calculate the numeric derivative, and remember to use element-wise exponentiation in the asec argument.
I leave the details to you.
