image measurement in matlab

Hi all,

I would like to process a SEM image, the purpose is to detect the hole width and depth. I have processed half of the image and getting the folllowing figure. How can I detect the depth and width of it?

One valid interpretation of that image would be that the hole has not ended by the right hand edge of the image, because the left side is higher than the right side.

If you mentally think of pouring water into the depression until it was level with the top of the left side, then the water would drain out the right side.
