Hello,
I just installed Matlab R2012a as per my university's instructions. The setup seemed not to finish as normally. Windows asked whether it installed correctly or not. I said yes. No shortcuts or anything created. The program also does not appear in the Installed Programs of my Windows (Win 7 - 64 bit).
Anyhow, after running the application I received the following message:
Warning: C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2012a\toolbox\local\pathdef.m not found.
Toolbox Path Cache is not being used. Type 'help toolbox_path_cache' for more info
Undefined function or variable 'ispc'.
Warning: MATLAB did not appear to successfully set the search path. To recover for this session of MATLAB, type "restoredefaultpath;matlabrc". To find out how to avoid this warning the next time you start MATLAB, type "docsearch problem path" after recovering for this session.
Warning: Duplicate directory name: C:\Program Files\MATLAB\R2012a\toolbox\local.
Warning: Initializing Handle Graphics failed in matlabrc.
This indicates a potentially serious problem in your MATLAB setup,
which should be resolved as soon as possible. Error detected was:
MATLAB:undefinedVarOrClass
Undefined variable "graphics" or class "graphics.internal.initializeMATLABRoot".
Warning: Initializing Java preferences failed in matlabrc.

MATLAB:UndefinedFunction
Undefined function 'usejava' for input arguments of type 'char'.

There definitely is a problem with the installation which i don't know how to handle. I tried re-installing the program twice but same thing happened. Also tried to run as Admin.
I found this in the website
which seems to have solved the problem with the pathdef.m file.
But still Matlab is not an 'installed' program as far as control panel is concerned.
Is there any advice on this?
Thanks in advance
