MATLAB live script freezes often
이전 댓글 표시
Title says it all, live scrips will randomly freeze for about 30 seconds at a time. Happens once every 10 minutes or so. Eventually it unfreezes, but it's so bad that I avoid live script altogether. Happens on all 3 of my different workstations.

Hi Everett,
This is a known issue that has been fixed in R2019b. Please see "stability" in this release note:
Thanks,
Jared

I still have this problem in R2020a.
The live script very often freezes. This happens in particular when I insert a Math equation, or when there is a plot.
I then have to terminate the Matlab process and restart Matlab.
Is there any fix for this in R2020b?

Hi Tobias, same problem here. Updating to the latest version of Matlab has not solved the issue for me. Were you able to find a solution to this?

una solución es abrir matlab con permisos de superusuario

I have the same problem with R2021a and now R2021b. Cant seem to work in Live script for more than 5 minutes before it freezes. Thats with over 120 GB of memory and 20 cores.

Agree. Freezing on both R2021a and b. Mac Intel i9.

Hi Paul,
can you please answer few questions so we can understand your issue better?:
- when it "freezes" what actually is frozen? is it just the Live Editor that is frozen? can you use command window? for example, can you run x=1 on the command window which would run?
- is the "frozen" state *only* happens when you run the script? please describe what else gets you to frozen state. For example, does it freeze when you are just typing code? adding rich text? etc.
- have you noticed that using any shortcut keys will get you in the frozen state? as oppose to using the toolstrip buttons on the UI?
Thanks again for your time.

Update. I am still constantly having problems with Live Editor. While I think it’s a great idea, the application appears to be poorly implemented. I want it to work well, because I love the idea of documenting everything in one file, it makes it much easier to generate reports. That being said, even with the latest release (2022a) I’m constantly having the following issues (note I’m running this on 18 cores with 96 GB RAM:
- Crashes (even with simple code) when there are too many figures open (more than ~20).
- If you stop and restart a script it will crash or hang for long periods of time even though the Matlab terminal can still be used. Appears to be failing to clean-up after the previous stop.
- When it does crash, you are unable to save the file as well.
- In many if not most cases, it never recovers and I have to CTR-ALT-DEL kill it.
- I also notice a lot of memory being used by live editor is not being freed efficiently.

I have had a similar experience with Live Script from versions 2019a to 2022a. 2022a is worse; the version utilises a live script like implementation, so I hung like crazy when you have a lot of folders on the Matlab path. I have now gone back to using 2021a. I like the 2022a interface, but it freezes too frequently, whereas 2021a almost does not freeze. The Mathworks people should look into this seriously.

Even more terrible on Ventura 13.2 - Live Script with R2022b updatate 3 is is still unusable!

Ditto to the above. I just upgraded to Ventura 13.2 on an M1 Max Mac Studio and MATLAB v. 2022a is nearly unusable with both code execution and IDE lag. It's the point where I'm considering reverting back to a previous version of the OS.
