Need Help with Siren Detection Code

Hi all,

I am writing a script in MATLAB to detect ambulance sirens based off a set of features I am defining.

The feature I want to write involves the shape of the maximum value (of the spectrogram or STFT) curve. i.e. how many indexes the max value changes by from column to column.

The problem I'm having is that some outliers are occuring and causing my index change to be drastically large. My question is... Is there a way to locate the maximum that fits in the curve, then in the following column, look for a maximum that is + or - a certain amount of indexes from the previous so as to remove the outliers much above or below the actual curve?
