Simple models doesn't seem to work in F28379D

The code gets generated and downloaded to the targed just fine, no errors. The c28x_serial_ext example in external mode seems to run fine, the data shows in the scopes with small breaks between them.
The problem is i can't seem to get GPIO to work, if i set a simple toggle output the code builds and runs but no signal is found on the pin, the same for inputs, if i apply a signal to a pin it doesn't show in a scope in simulink.
Any help is appreciated.
