Combine 2 matrices into 1

I have a matrix

a= 1 1 1 
   1 1 1
   1 1 1
b= 2 2 2 
 2 2 2 
 2 2 2

How do I combine them into

1 2 1 2 1 2
1 2 1 2 1 2
1 2 1 2 1 2
