Feature request: HEVC video support

As hevc files are now a common video standard, please support reading and writing these files in Matlab.

You may want to consider filing a tech support enhancement request. This is an open community that does not feed directly into MathWorks Development

You can read HEVC using VideoReader as long as the platform you are on support HEVC. I believe Mac and Windows do. For Linux, as long as you have the suitable gstreamer plugins it should work.
Writing is not supported yet.

Ah, yes, great, I can indeed read hevc files using VideoReader on my Mac! Now if we can just get hevc writing I'd be all set. I'm wanting to try geometric distortion correction for GoPro movies!

In case someone on Windows had the same question, I wasn't able to open HEVC x265 files automatically with Matlab 2018a, but after I tried opening the file with the built-in player in Windows 10 (Movies and TV), it prompted to pay $0.99 for the codec and now Matlab can read the files. I didn't try writing to using HEVC
