Unable to open workspace

I am running Matlab r2014a for Windows. On launching Matlab, the workspace window for viewing variables does not load. If you try to open the workspace from the layout menu or use the command

workspace

Matlab throws the error

Unable to restore Workspace, no corresponding class was specified

This issue is not fixed by quitting and reopening Matlab or rebooting the computer. Otherwise Matlab seems to work fine, it saves and references variables normally, I just can't view them in the workspace window. Any help fixing this would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the home tab, under layout, you should see a checkmark in front of workspace. Is this the case?

Actually looking at it just now, when I opened matlab, there was a check, but no actual workspace window. When I typed the "workspace" command, nothing happened. When I clicked on the "workspace" line in the layout tab (immediately after opening) I got the following long error message

Later, I tried again and got the same warning header, but it was just "java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException" with no : -1 in line 5, and the rest of the error message was just the second half of what I listed below (starting with at com.mathworks.util.event.EventListenerList$1.invoke(EventListenerList.java:83)).

I have seen both this error message as well as the no class error message when trying to open workspace on this computer.

I can't think of an explanation, so I suggest the following steps (some of which you undoubtedly already did):

1. restart Matlab
2. restart your computer
3. re-install Matlab
4. contact support (see the Contact Us button at the top of the page)

Thanks for your suggestions Rik and Prasanth. Restarting matlab or the computer did not help. I ended up completely uninstalling and reinstalling and that fixed the problem. I didn't see the post from Prasanth until after the re-install, so I did not get a chance to try that fix. If the issue crops up again I will give that a go.
