Which algorithm is best for skull stripping?

When i read some review paper they mentioned morphological operation is better and also some paper use thresholding, but i wanna to remove the skull part without changing(Major)the brain part including preserve its gray scale, because am directly working on DICOM images. can any one suggest best articles regarding to this?

See my skull stripping demo. It's just basic, not the very best out there I'm sure. But for what it's worth, I've attached it. Adapt it to your needs if you want.
