cell edge distribution

i have to write matlab code to divide the image into 16 blocks.The original image size is 64*64.After dividing i will have 16 16*16 cells so for each cell the number of edge pixels should be calculated.can anyone please help me on this.i am in need of code or reference material for this.Thanks in advance...
