Matlab R2017b has problems with GIT and the configuration file when starting.

Hi, When I open Matlab R2017b (after a fresh install), it fails to start GIT and to read the desktop config file.
I get the below output in the command window. Has anyone had this issue? I have been having problems with Matlab's integrated GIT since version R2017a (it would fail to push). I never minded that, because I prefer bash for committing/pushing. But the Matlab GIT GUI is useful for comparing revisions. Now it seems to have failed completely. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help.
Has anyone had this issue and found a solution?

Thanks to Mathworks support:
I had my MATLAB_PATH environment variable pointing to jre7 (I had set it manually because of an issue I was having with a previous Matlab version). Deleting the MATLAB_PATH environment variable fixed the issue.
