Hey guys I am trying to load up some data for a neural network using the back propagation algorithm. The data that I have is given in the form of 3 files - a .map file, a.data file and a .label file. This is from the 20 newsgroup data set which is quite famous in text analysis.
Could someone explain to me how I am supposed to load this data into matlab? I have tried load but I don't understand how I am supposed to use the .label and .map files. Perhaps this is done from an older version of Matlab and I want to know how to use this effectively in the newer versions (I am using R2017a)
the website I have gotten the data from is

The folder has the following files:
  • train.data
  • train.label
  • train.map
  • test.data
  • test.label
  • test.map
You can load the files with extension data and label using load. These files have numbers as data. The files with extension .map can be loaded using textscan

Hi i did what you said. Can you confirm if I made a mistake anywhere?
Here is the code now
clc
clear all
close all
a = load('train.data');
b = load('train.label'); fileid = fopen('train.map') c = textscan(fileid,'%s')
save('goat.txt','a','b','c')
