How to compare and calculate two specific superpixel's histograms?

I am working on image processing. I have generated 48 superpixels based on SLIC algorithm.While generating histograms I am getting more zeros and counts as 256*1 double.
[counts binlocations]=imhist(I);
Have I done it wrong? How to calculate the distance between two specific superpixels like calc-hist-dist(1,36)?
