Is there any alternative for 'patch' command in uiaxes?

We have recently been encouraged at my work to start using the new ui controls in matlab (e.g. uifigure, uiaxes). However, I have just found that uiaxes does not support the 'patch' command. Is there any way round this? Will this be supported soon? Being able to draw transparent shapes on my plots is fundamental to the kind of thing I'm trying to show.
