uitable with guide setting data to strings

I want to create a table that is n rows by 2 columns. The number of rows will be entered by the user upon running of the main program. The first column is to have data of the type x,y,z. I want to be able to see the commas and also allow leading zeros when the user enters in the data. The last column is just a number. The cells should also be editable(the data will not be available before the table is created). Right now I just have a n by 4 table. I can not figure out how to make a uitable accept strings and leading zeros.
