I am working with the IT of MATLAB end users who observe the following on multiple machines and seek ideas to narrow down the issue:
1. There are brand new PCs having Windows and MS Office products with Skype for Business installed and everything appears to be working. 2. Then MATLAB R2016b gets installed. 3. While after the installation MATLAB works fine, they observe Skype being unresponsive or crashing consistently.
I cannot think of anything a MATLAB installation would impact Skype and seek input. My only next idea is to ask to run the process monitor.

Is MATLAB running when Skype crashes? Or not, it's just been installed and is not actively executing?

No, Matlab is not neccessarily running (end user).

If you uninstall MATLAB does the crashing stop? Or is the crashing too sporadic to tell?

Uninstalling is a good thing to try. That would help narrowing down the causes.

I can anecdotally say that Skype for Business crashes on average 3-4x a day for me (Win7x64).
I have multiple MATLABs installed and one always running but don't know of any connection. Perhaps you could ask the non-MATLAB users of Skype if they also have crashes and just don't report it?

Thanks Sean. The impacted end users really come from 95% working to 0% working. So the non-MATLAB users surely would report if they cannot make phone calls.
