Simulink switch between real and complex.

I have two signals, one is real scalar and the other 2x2 complex. I need to switch between them. All the Simulink switches generate a "complex signal mismatch" error, despite my unchecking the "Require all data ports to have the same data type" in the signal attributes tab. I really need the output to be real or complex, depending on the switch setting. Is there any workaround? (I'm using R2015a)
