How to define the number of wavelet cycles?

Dear all, the number of wavelet cycles is supposed to influence the wavelet convolution. However, given a center frequency, a bandwidth and a sampling rate for a complex wavelet transform, can I change the number of cycles used, or is it fix per frequency and got a fix relation to the scales? Could anyone help me? Best, Peter
