Is the kernel still Maple or does MATLAB currently use its own built kernel?

It uses MUPAD and hasn't used Maple since 2007 or 2008.

Also, the MATLAB Live Editor (R2016a) is now available and may be your preferred notebook for Symbolic Math Toolbox. For more information : http://www.mathworks.com/discovery/mupad.html
