How can I reopen gui with previous configuration?

Hi all,

using matlab r2014a I build a several nested figure (one "mother figure" + "child figures"). In each figure I get some information from user and I save all data in each figure handles struct. Closing the "child" figure, is there a way to reopen/rebuild that figure using the same previous "configuration/layout"?

I have a function called LoadUserSettings() that reads all the control values (string, value, etc. properties) from a .mat file and send them to their controls. When the user exits the program, the existing state of the controls, that a user might possibly have interacted with, is read and saved to the .mat file.
