Can you write text into gui tables?

Hi,

I've created a table (12 rows 1 column) and I'm currently writing numbers into the column. I was wondering how to write strings into the columns?

Would this work?;

string_data = [stringa; stringb; stringc];

set(handles.table, 'Data', string_data);

I keep getting this error when i try that

"While setting the 'Data' property of Table: Data must be a numeric, logical, or cell array"
