Gait analysis in frequency domain

I am doing a project on gait analysis . Although , a lot of ways of doing gait analysis are there , I am a bit confused about what exactly gait analysis in frequency domain means ? Is it the analysis of silhouette images in terms of 2-D discrete Fourier transform or the cyclic variation of features of the subject's body taken as a periodic 1 dimensional sequence ? I would be really grateful for finding answers shedding light on how this coefficients are used in recognition of the subjects .

I don't know. You'll have to do a better job at trying to understand the papers you've read. Perhaps ask the authors. Though fft2() might be used somewhere in the algorithm/analysis, it's not really a MATLAB question.
