Why am I continuously prompted to enter a one-time password when trying to install an older MATLAB release?

Whenever I try to install MATLAB R2019b or an older release, I try to sign in to my MathWorks account in the installer and I am prompted to get a one-time password from https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/profiles/generatecode

I copy the one-time passcode from the webpage and enter it into the installer as the password but when I press Enter I am prompted to provide a new one-time password again. I am unable to successfully log in because I am continuously prompted for a one-time password.

I also get the same error when I try to activate MATLAB using the legacy activation client "activate_matlab" (or on macOS "Activate.app") instead of the newer "MathWorksProductAuthorizer".

This error can occur when the email address being used in the MATLAB installer doesn't perfectly match the email address associated with the MathWorks account that you are logged into in your web browser.

Note: If you are using SSO, you may be logging in with a different email address than the one that is associated with your account. See the link below to confirm this.

Please confirm which email address is associated to your MathWorks account by going to this page: 

https://www.mathworks.com/mwaccount/

Use the "Profile" dropdown menu to select "Edit Profile". Then confirm that the Email Address displayed matches the one that you have input into the MATLAB installer exactly.

If your email address matches with the one you entered when signing in, send in an output of the attribute session. This can be generated as follows:
