Can Simulink Real-time Send and Receive Data to a Host over Ethernet without involving MATLAB?

Hi,
I need to figure out if Simulink real time running on a target machine can send and recurve information to/from a host machine that isn't running MATLAB, over Ethernet.
My original plan was to use the "To Instrument" block which works perfectly when running the simulation under Simulink directly and using the real-time sync block in windows. The block doesn't let the model compile, however, so I can't put it on the target it seems.
I've also looked at the Ethernet communication example to connect two targets together, can that be used for my purposes or do both machines have to run the real-time kernel?
My backup idea is to use the C api but I would like to avoid doing that. Any help on the matter is appreciated.

Hi Jari,
Thanks for asking! The Simulink Real-Time target machine can communicate via UDP or TCP/IP with any external device supporting these protocols. You can use the corresponding blocks from the Simulink Real-Time library, similar to the example you are referring to.
I hope this is helpful!
