Connecting Ardupilot in Virtual Machine, Ubuntu and MATLAB on Windows

I'm trying to connect Ardupilot SITL which is running on a virtual Ubuntu with VM with my Windows computer which is running the virtual machine.

I need to run MATLAB off of the Windows machine and Ardupilot off of Ubuntu, but they need to be able to be connected, and I've been having substantial trouble with this. Can you help me please with the steps of linking Matlab and Ardupilot in such case?
