Can we use any other variable than symbolic to solve an equation?

I came to know that exe file do not accept symbolic variables.So instead of symbolic variables, can we define the variable in any other way so that we can run it in exe? Please help

If double precision is not enough, look into John's hpf

i cannot use double precision if i am using vpasolve. i am forced to use sym x
