OSX - delete command and trash can

I have run the same code on two different laptops running OSX 10.9.2 and matlab. In one when I delete files using the delete command inside Matlab, the files go to the trash can. One the other laptop running the same OSX 10.9.2 - delete deletes the files from disk.

Can anyone give me some idea the difference and how I get the first laptop to by pass the trash can?
