Customizing icons in Current Folder window

In the Current Folder window, one sees different types of files with different types of extensions (.mat, .m, etc...) assigned an icon.
Are these icons defined in MATLAB, or elsewhere, and is there a way to define one's own icon for new file types/extensions? For example, CUDA code is customarily given a .cu extension. Is it possible to make the Current Folder window display a certain kind of icon for files with that extension?

Not sure. What happens if you change the icon in the operating system for a particular extension? Does it show up in the current folder with the new icon?

I can't do that test, unfortunately. Windows 7 makes changing the association between extensions and icons really hard. However, one can see that .mat files have a different icon when viewed in Windows Explorer, as compared to the MATLAB Current Folder. So clearly, MATLAB has some icon selection mechanism of its own that overrides the operating system's, no?

Yeah, you're right - I didn't notice that the icons are different. So you may be out of luck.

Why out of luck? If MATLAB can do it, then it might offer an easier way than going through Windows 7.

Yeah, if they offered that in the preferences. My guess is that the icons they chose are hard coded into some resource and not available for you to change.
