The Penn World Table (version 9.1), or short PWT, is a database of several macroeconomic data, from 1950 to 2014, covering 182 countries. It is an important data source for development economists and researchers of the global economy more generally.
The Maddison Project Database (version 2018), or MPD, is another important database covering 167 countries and going back 2000 years.
The Jordà-Schularick-Taylor Macrohistory Database (release 4) contains several macro and financial data and covers 17 advanced economies at annual frequency from 1870 to 2016.
PWT, MDP, and JST are key data sources for all economists working on economic growth, development, or macrofinance.
This project offers three functions, ImportPWT, ImportMPD, and ImportJST that download the respective data. PWT and MPD are collected from the University of Groningen website (http://www.rug.nl/ggdc/); ImportJST loads the data from the macrohistory.net website.
Please refer to these source websites to check acceptable use of the data and how to properly reference these databases in your work.
The program is likely to be useful for academic economists only. Please comment if you find it useful.
