This is a function that concatenates data column arrays of possibly dissimilar sizes. The undefined portions are padded with NaNs to make a viable rectangular matrix array. The main
idea is that data in 'x' is added to the data in 'A'

A third argument can be included to specify a column index in 'A' designating where to begin overwriting 'A' with 'x' and/or the appending of 'x' to 'A'.

One possible use is to plot the output vectors of many simulation runs which have varying lengths with one simple plot statement. This is usually better for managing large sets of related raw data.
