Why am I getting warnings when starting Coriander on Debian 6?

I am using Coriander to preview and control my DCAM compatible camera. When I start the application I am getting the following warning on Debian 6:
Warning: could not find a Digital Camera on the bus.

You should ensure that you as the user are part of the video group on the Linux system you are on. System Administrators will be able to add you to the video group.
