Matlab can't find windows SDK?

I have installed matlab 2013a on windows 7 64bit home premium. For some reason I can't make matlab locate any compilers.

I have been to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8279 to download and install the sdk, and have also installed visual studio express 2012.

I have added folders "Microsoft SDKs", "Microsoft Visual Studio 8", "Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0" and "Microsoft.NET" with subfolders to the path. However, I still get:

 No supported SDK or compiler was found on this computer.

Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?
