How to isolate the unstable part of a Linear System?

I have found a function in matlab that does a balanced realization of a Linear System the name of the function is "balreal".
This function first isolates the unstable part of the system and then performs the Hammarling algorithm to compute approximate grammians to the stable part of the sistem and voila... we get the balanced realization...
The Question is:
If I want just to isolate the stable and the unstable part of the Linear System?, is there a function out there that does this, I mean if "balreal" does it as a step of its procedure is ther a fucntion similar function just for the isolation???
Thanks

Thank you...
where can I get a List of theese tipe of fuctions?
By the way is there a way to get a transformation that yields this system, I mean, if there are initial conditions I will ned a transformation to proyect those conditions into the new decoupled system.
However thanks again
