I am using the model run with the command 'power_fuel_cell' on matlab 2010a. Reading through the documentation found at http://www.mathworks.com/help/toolbox/physmod/powersys/ref/fuelcellstack.html
I am confused with the equation found under the heading 'Detailed Model'. E_oc = K_c*E_n where E_oc is the open circuit voltage, E_n is the Nernst voltage and K_c is defined as 'Voltage constant at nominal condition of operation'. I was wondering where this constant K_c is input or calculated, i cannot find any reference to it in textbooks etc... it seems to scale with reguard to the number of cells in the stack, does it do anythign else?

Your question is the following... "I was wondering where this constant K_c is input or calculated, i cannot find any reference to it in textbooks etc... it seems to scale with reguard to the number of cells in the stack, does it do anythign else?"
The constant K_c is derived from being calculated. By, being based on the polarization curve at nominal conditions of operation along with several additional parameters, such as the low heating value (LHV) efficiency of the stack, composition of fuel and air, supply pressures and temperatures.
The constant K_c is easily obtained by referencing it's value from the manufacturer's datasheet.
And, it's only function is to provide the fuel cell stack's: Voltage constant value at the nominal condition of operation.
