NetCDF compression in matlab

Hello,

Following the matlab documentation for netcdf.ingVarDeflate:

deflateLevel : Scalar value between 0 and 9 specifying the amount of compression, where 0 is no compression and 9 is the most compression

Wondering if there is an "optimal/best" compression number to use (between 1 and 9) for when saving a NetCDF file? and if there is any information that clarifies why to use that value?
