What do you mean model? Are you using Simulink instead of MATLAB, and you're double clicking the .mdl icon in Windows manager? What operating system are you using? If in Windows 7 have you tried "Start/Default programs" to set your default version of MATLAB?

Yes we are using Simulink model & we are double clicking the .mdl icon. We are using windows XP.
I see you accepted the answer so I'm glad you got it working. I don't have Windows XP anymore but I think under the tools menu of Windows Explorer there was a Folder options menu item or something like that where you could tell it what program you wanted to open a given extension. It looks like you used that. Here's a link that walks you through it: http://wowwtechnews.wordpress.com/2011/11/02/how-to-change-the-default-program-a-file-opens-with-in-windows-xp/
I am sorry to confuse you by accepting your answer but even in windows7 control panel there is no folder or file with name "Programs". There is a folder "Programs and Features" but under that there is no option "set your default program". Please check & suggest us the method for windows7. Thanks
In Windows 7, Start -> Control Panel -> Default Programs -> Associate a file type or protocol with a program. Click on .mat in listbox. Click "Change program..." button. Select the version of MATLAB that you want to be the default version when you double-click a mat file. Click OK.
Or you could skip the Control Panel and go there more directly: Start -> Default Programs -> Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
Or you could have Googled "windows 7 default programs" and taken the first hit: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-which-programs-Windows-uses-by-default
For XP, see the link I gave in my prior comment.
Thanks I got that for both windows XP & Windows 7.
