How to cut area or some part of image ?

I have a binary image A.jpg. I want to cut (automatic cutting without a manual or using curve from boundary side) along the dotted line (red) according to figure B to get to figure C. How can I write code in matlab?

How well would it work to fit an ellipse and then use the ellipse as the boundary?
