replicate and convolution in imfilter function

h = (1/(2*pi*sigma^2)).*exp(-(X.^2 + Y.^2)/(2*sigma^2));
hx = (-X/(sigma^2)).*h;
kindly explain the following line especially what replicate and conv means here?
fx = imfilter(img, hx, 'replicate', 'conv');
