calling node from treenode without using selectednodes

hello,

I am working on app designer. in my app I created a treenode to store data from various places. in a different part of the app I have a dropdown to select which node I want. Once I chose the node there's a button that would display the nodes data in a table. However whenever I click the button the node isn't recognized no matter what I do. is there a way to call a created node without using selectednodes?
