How to plot Design Structure Matrix?

How can I plot a Design Structure Matrix (DSM) in MATLAB?

Here is an example DSM:

I have tried storing my connections in a sparse matrix and then plotting it using spy, but I would prefer to have filled boxes representing connections instead of nodes like the plots that spy returns.

Hi Hau Kit Yong,

You could use the below code to plot empty squares using spy function

spy(sparse_matrix,'rs') %for red squares 

Then in the figure window you could go to the Property Inspector of plotted data and change the MarkerFaceColor property under Markers section to the required color in order to fill in the empty squares.
