data from figures without data

how do I extract experimental values or data from a figure using matlab

% Open your figure
fig = openfig('example.fig');
% Find Xdata and YData objects
dataObjs = findobj(fig,'-property','YData');
y1 = dataObjs(1).YData;
dataObjs = findobj(fig,'-property','XData');
x1 = dataObjs(1).XData;
