can't access matlab via ssh

Hello,

I have matlab installed on my linux based PC which I want to access remotely. On this system, I can start matlab using the linux terminal by typing 'matlab'.

Now, when I try to start matlab remotely, after successfully connecting to the remote system using: ssh [e-mail] (or even ssh -X [e-mail]), I get: -bash: matlab: command not found ...

How can I get around this? I know matlab is installed (on the remote PC). P.S.: I do not have superuser access on that system.
