How do I find a polynomial equation with MATLAB if I only have points on the curve?

I have seven points on the curve and none of them are intercepts. How would I find the answer WITHOUT using any of the polynomial-specific functions (e.g. polyfit())?

I presume this is homework since polyfit( ) is not allowed. Do you know how to do a least squares polynomial fit? There are plenty of canned algorithms for you online if you Google it.
